Whelk Permit Byelaw 2016 now in force

The Whelk Permit Byelaw 2016 is now in effect and replaces the Whelk Fisheries Permit Emergency Byelaw, which expired on the 28th October 2016. The byelaw requires fishers to obtain a permit to fish for whelks and fish within certain conditions.  More information can be found here.

The measures implemented for the protection of whelk fisheries have not changed in relation to the emergency byelaw and those fishers with a permit do not have to reapply.  Fishers who already have a whelk permit will be contacted shortly with further details.
