Opportunity to become an IFCA Member

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is inviting applications for members of the Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities (IFCAs) to provide an opportunity to help shape the future of our seas by ensuring the sustainable management of our inshore marine environment.

The role of an IFCA Member

– Members help ensure inshore waters are managed responsibly.

– They consider all fishing and conservation interests and work collectively, not as representatives of a single group.

– Applicants should have strong local knowledge, relevant experience, and an impartial approach to balancing commercial, recreational, and environmental priorities.

As a committee member, you will:

– Contribute knowledge and experience to decisions affecting the inshore marine environment.

– Support sustainable use of fisheries resources while protecting or restoring marine habitats.

– Consider the needs of all users of inshore fisheries and marine resources.

– Help achieve conservation objectives within Marine Protected Areas.

Recruitment process

The MMO runs a rolling recruitment campaign, meaning applications can be submitted throughout the year with no fixed deadline.

Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis, and interviews for shortlisted candidates follow soon after.

We encourage applicants such as:

– New candidates with local knowledge and relevant experience.

– Current General Members nearing the end of their ten-year term.

– Former members who have previously served a ten-year term.

All applications are assessed through fair and open competition, with appointments made on merit to ensure that IFCA committees reflect a balance of perspectives across commercial, recreational, and environmental interests.
