Cockle Fishery Update

The remaining TAC for the 2026 Cockle Fishery is estimated to be 146t, which will enable a further 3 days of fishing activity.

In accordance with published opening times the fishery will close at 23.59hrs on 16 October 2026. The fishery will re-open for a 3-day period from Monday 26 October to Wednesday 28 October 2026 inclusive.  The fishery will NOT be open on Sunday 25 October as previously published because it is understood that the tides favour delaying opening by a day.

Officers are currently undertaking a piece of work exploring a very modest increase in TAC, but it is not clear whether this will be possible.  We will continue to monitor uptake of the TAC and amend the closing date if appropriate
