Position: Senior Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Officer (Marine)
Reports to: Assistant Chief Officer (Marine Protection)
Location: Kings Lynn. All IFCO’s are expected to work throughout the district.
Salary range: £43,835 – £48,473 (including 7.5% salary supplement).

Eastern IFCA is one of the largest of the 10 Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities, responsible for the coastline of Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Suffolk and out to six nautical miles at sea. One of our primary functions is to enforce all relevant fisheries and conservation regulations, which is undertaken by a team of warranted Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Officers (IFCO’s).
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right person to be appointed as a Senior Inshore and Fisheries Conservation Officer (Marine).
The position forms part of the management team and is the first line manager for designated staff (ashore or afloat). They will play a leading role in the management and delivery of marine operations and ensure that the operational readiness of all Authority vessels is maintained.
They will undertake the role of vessel crew and Skipper and will be the lead Skipper for FPV Protector IV. When in command of a vessel they are responsible for the vessel and crew and for ensuring its safe and diligent operation within the district. They will perform an enforcement role on land and at sea, using proportionate enforcement measures where appropriate. They will seek to ensure that the conservation objectives of any Marine Protected Areas within their area of responsibility are furthered and will take every opportunity to promote the Eastern IFCA brand.
The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively, to defuse confrontational situations and to develop constructive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. They will also be able to problem solve, be organised and able to prioritise their working day. They will be part of the visible face of the Authority and should be capable of promoting the reputation and values of Eastern IFCA.
The role will involve working some unsocial hours including early mornings, late evenings and some weekends and nights as required, occasionally at short notice. A salary supplement of 7.5% (included in the salary quoted above) is payable in recompense for this. The role is physically demanding so candidates should have a reasonable level of fitness.
Applications from candidates with experience in enforcement or the marine industry and/or with knowledge of commercial or recreational fishing would be welcomed. However, a full training programme to become a warranted IFCO will be provided for the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will already be an RYA Yachtmaster (Offshore) for power (or hold an equivalent qualification) and willl be required to undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard check and seafarers medical (ENG1 or ML5).
