Authority responds to Woolverstone marina dredging and disposal licence applications in River Orwell, Suffolk

MMO consultations were received for proposed dredging and disposal works at Woolverstone Marina, River Orwell. Works include maintenance dredging, capital dredging and disposal in the River Orwell.

A Marine Licence application was submitted for small-scale capital dredging and disposal and an application for maintenance dredging and disposal. Orwell Estuary is designated as a nature reserve to protect important estuarine habitats and species, and is used by recreational and commercial fishers. For both applications, the Authority raised concerns about the potential environmental and fishery impacts from dredge disposal within the River Orwell.

The Authority seeks a balance between the protection of the marine environment and the use of it to support businesses and livelihoods.
