Consultation on Proposed UK Fisheries Management Plans for Pelagic Stocks

The Scottish Government has launched a public consultation on five proposed joint UK Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs), including three that are relevant to the Eastern IFCA district:

– North Sea herring;

– Northern Shelf mackerel;

– and Northern Shelf blue whiting;

Developed jointly by the Scottish Government, Defra, DAERA (Northern Ireland) and the Welsh Government under the Fisheries Act 2020, the plans set out how these important pelagic fish stocks will be managed to ensure they remain sustainable for future generations. The proposals bring together the latest evidence on stock status and fisheries management, while outlining actions to restore stocks where required and maintain healthy fish populations.

Stakeholders, industry representatives and members of the public are encouraged to review the consultation documents and submit their views.

The consultation closes on 14 October 2026.
