Eastern IFCA Officers Join National Celebration of 15 Years of IFCAs at Alnwick Castle

Eastern IFCA officers were proud to attend the Association of IFCAs’ national celebration marking 15 years since the creation of the IFCA network and recognising the vital contribution of England’s inshore and small-scale fishing sector. The event took place on 1 July 2026 at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, bringing together more than 100 delegates from across the country.
Hosted by His Grace the Duke of Northumberland, the event welcomed fishermen, IFCA members and officers, academics and industry stakeholders to reflect on the achievements of the IFCA network since its establishment in 2011 and to discuss the future of inshore fisheries.
The programme highlighted the important role IFCAs play in balancing sustainable fisheries management with the protection of marine environments. Presentations explored the progress made over the last 15 years, including improvements in the management of inshore Marine Protected Areas and the continued commitment of IFCAs to work closely with fishing communities around England’s coast.
The event celebrated the strength of partnership between fishermen, regulators, scientists, government and community organisations. These collaborative relationships remain central to delivering effective local fisheries management and ensuring healthy, productive seas for future generations.
