Environment Agency multibeam bathymetry surveys

The Environment Agency are planning multibeam bathymetry surveys in East Anglia. There are 6 planned survey areas in the Eastern IFCA district.

 

The first 5 areas are planned to be surveyed between the 17th March to 22nd May. The areas are as follows:

1. An area directly off of Thorpeness 3km long and extends from the shoreline to 1km out to sea.

2. An area from Benacre Ness to Lowestoft Harbour Entrance 8km long  and extends from the shoreline to 1km out to sea.

3. An area directly off of Corton 3km long and extends from the shoreline to 1km out to sea.

4. An area directly off of Winterton Ness 3km long and extends from the shoreline to 1km out to sea.

5. An area from Hemsby to Winterton 4km long and extends between 1km to 4km to sea.

 

The next surveys will resume in September, any remaining areas from the first 5 above will be surveyed and the final area which will be surveyed is:

1. An area from Old Hunstanton to Thornham 7km long and extends from the shoreline to 2km out to sea.

 

The survey will be undertaken by vessel Sentry III, a 8m Cheetah Cat using a fixed multibeam sonar (no equipment will be towed),  the vessels manoeuvrability is not restricted whilst on task.
