Wash Fishery Order 1992 – Minimum Landing Size for Cockles

Eastern IFCA recently consulted with Wash Cockle fishermen about potentially bringing in a minimum landing size for Cockles. This was in response to concerns raised about the landing of small Cockles.

Having considered the matter carefully and taken into account the views of industry, Eastern IFCA have decided not to implement a minimum landing size for Cockles this season. The matter of landing small cockles is an important but complex one and we feel that development of measures to address the issue will benefit from further engagement.

We will continue dialogue with stakeholders in relation to this matter to inform decisions we may need to take to manage future fisheries.
