Consultation Launched – Wash Temporary Closure Renewal

Eastern IFCA is launching a consultation on renewing the Temporary Closure over the Wash bivalve fisheries, to allow management of these fisheries to continue.

Since the expiry of the Wash Fishery Order 1992 on 3 January 2023, Eastern IFCA has managed the bivalve shellfish fisheries and private lays in The Wash under the ‘Interim Measures’: a temporary closure under the Temporary Closure of Shellfish Fisheries Byelaw (Byelaw 8) and issuing exemptions to allow fishing.

The current temporary closure will expire on 3 January 2024. A renewal of the closure will ensure that management of the fisheries can continue uninterrupted, and that the status quo can be maintained.

A chart of the affected area can be found here.

Respond to the Consultation

We would like to hear your views on the proposed closure, and you can do so in writing or via e-mail to mail@eastern-ifca.gov.uk.  Responses to the consultation should be received by 11 December 2023.

If you have any questions about the implementation of this temporary closure or the transition from the WFO to the new management mechanisms, please contact the office.
