Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority launched…

On 31st March, 2011 Eastern Sea Fisheries Joint Committee ceased to exist after over 100 years of inshore fisheries management. It has been replaced by Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority, which will continue to champion the sustainable management of inshore fisheries within the wider marine environment. The former ESFJC, new EIFCA staff will make use of their extensive collective experience to face the challenges ahead, which will include a full review of the organisation’s Byelaws.

IFCAs were created under the Marine and Coastal Access Act, with the intention of modernising the Sea Fisheries Committees and extending their powers and responsibilities with respect to the marine environment in particular.
